Alai-Igari Situation (アライ・猪狩状態, Arai Igari Jōtai) is a special fighting position.
Description[]
This unorthodox fighting position was created by Kanji Igari during his legendary cross-discipline fight against Mohammad Alai. Being aware of the rule of boxing prohibit the attack on grounded opponent, Kanji (who is fighting under professional wrestling rule) lies down on the floor and preventing Alai from attacking him, all while attempting to tackle him using his leg.
While it can be said that Kanji unfairly took an advantage of the rule of that bout against Alai, this position essentially leave him open to any kind of retaliation from opponent if they chose to. As such, this position is deemed impractical in an actual free-for-all fight. Although the peculiar usage of this technique posed an interesting dilemma; should one endure an attack from a largely defenseless opponent who are exploiting the rules, or chose to attack them and break your own rule in the process.
For the first time in the series, Yuujirou Hanma used this trick against Mohammad Alai in the retrospection. Later, he used the same technique against Mohammad Alai Jr, in which he question the son of Alai what would he do if he were present in such a situation. In the same scene, it was shown a short flashback in which young Kanji Igari used this fighting trick in his legendary match with Mohammad Alai.

Trivia[]
- This technique is a reference to the exhibition match between Muhammad Ali and Antonio Inoki, who are the inspiration of Alai and Kanji respectively. As an opening move, Inoki performed this exact move to attack Ali just as described in the series.
