Hitoshi Kuriyagawa (栗谷川 等, Kuriyagawa Hitoshi) is a fictional character from anime and manga series of Baki the Grappler. He is Emi Akizawa's personal assistant whose job is to keep an eye on young Baki Hanma and set up fights for him at her direction. Despite working for Emi, he is still shocked at how she and Yuujirou Hanma treat their son.

Personality[]

Somewhat mysterious at first, it is revealed that Kuriyagawa is actually a loyal servant of Baki's mother, Emi Akezawa. He is a commonly occuring supporting character early in the Baki the Grappler anime, often watching Baki Hanma from the side lines, keeping to himself and reporting to his Boss. He does whatever his boss asks of him, even coming face to face to a local yakuza boss and asking them to fight Baki, showing he is a confident person.

He cares a lot about Baki and his Boss, even crying at Emi's death, and fearing for Baki's life during the fight with Yuujirou Hanma, Baki's father.

Appearance[]

Kuriyagawa is short in stature smaller than even Baki in size when he was 13 years old, he wears thick rectangular glasses which often make him look like a private investigator or part of the FBI.

History[]

Baki the Grappler[]

Childhood Saga[]

Kuriyagawa is the servant of Emi Akezawa and often personally watches Baki and his progress from a distance. His first appearance was while Baki fought with 100 street thugs, he sat in his car and counted the number that Baki took down, relaying the information to his boss.

Throughout the series he often carries out orders for his boss, visiting people to offer money in order for them to fight Baki, which will help his training and make him stronger. These people include Kaoru Hanayama, Yuri Chakovsky and Kitazawa, leader of the thugs Baki fought in the beginning.

When Baki fights with Hanayama he sits back, worried for Baki's safety and expresses his surprise at how strong Hanayama is.

Eventually Baki fights his father Yuujirou, and Kuriyagawa is there to watch with his boss, when Emi interrupts their fight to save Baki and results in her death he drops to his knees and begins crying showing that he cared for his boss and Baki.

In the anime, later after Baki has left the city to train himself over a two year period, Kuriyagawa approaches Detective Kido who is sitting outside Baki's house wondering where he's gone to. They sit down and Kuriyagawa explains to Kido the story of why Baki is the way he is, and what's been going on lately. After their talk, Kido asks what he will do now and Kuriyagawa replies that he will be around, watching all that is happening and all that will happen.

Abilities[]

Even though we don't see Kuriyagawa actually fight anyone, he does show that he has some martial skill, jumping twice his size and gripping a fluorescent lamp in the roof and landing back down on a table, shattering it and pointing it towards Kitazawa, a thug leader that was threatening him.
