Maria (マリア, Maria) is a fictional character from manga series of Hanma Baki. She is a morbidly obese woman and the girlfriend of Biscuit Oliva. Maria was once a beautiful woman. When Oliva goes every night to see her, Maria constantly belittles and insults him, however Oliva is very stunned by her beauty.
Personality[]
Maria seems to be an arrogant woman who doesn't care about anything and thinks that everything should belong to her without any effort. She was very spoiled by Biscuit Oliva and her relationship with him is extremely unusual and disturbing. It is clear that Oliva tries very hard for her, but she does not appreciate it that much. Not only that, she sometimes treats him with total contempt and even treat him as if he's completely worthless. Despite that, she shown several times that she cares about Oliva in her own way and regardless of her behavior, she seems to love him as well, even rushing to his side when defeating, and cuddling with him as he slept.
Her behavior may be a result of her own frustration about what happened to her body. It is later revealed that she used to be a thin-sized supermodel, but, due to an unknown disease, needed to take medication that bloated her up to egregious proportions. Despite her arrogance, she is aware that and in her eyes, she is no longer the beautiful woman that Oliva fell for. Maria is probably ashamed of her appearance and she hurts Oliva and possibly tries to get him to leave her, because he insists on treating her the same, as if she had not changed at all. To Oliva, however, that feeling is the pure truth, and also the source of his strength (in his words, he built his body so that he could continue carrying her). In his eyes, no matter how she looks she is his one and only, and she is as beautiful as the day they met.
Oliva said that Maria is always tense and in a bad mood, although Baki managed to gave her a good time and made her feel relaxed when he cuddled up to her and went to sleep . In fact, not much is known about her. Maria is an extremely mysterious figure, and her statements were not very common throughout the saga in which she took part.

Formerly a slim and beautiful woman, she is now morbidly obese, after taking some medication because of an unknown disease. Maria is the fattest character in the series. Her obesity has led her to being confined to her bed for the rest of her life as she doesn't even have the strength to move. Nevertheless, Biscuit Oliva still sees her as the beautiful woman from the old years. She always wears white pajama. According to Baki Hanma, Maria's body is very soft and has a pleasant smell to it.

Despite her morbid obesity, she could get up and move from her room to the lower floor of the prison, but after that she could no longer move due to fatigue. She demonstrated to have a great marksmanship and a great launching force, being able to throw a lot of things in the face of her boyfriend or to be able to throw a cigar with two in Oliva's eye even though it was several meters away.
