– Sukune to Mitsunari Tokugawa.

Nomi no Sukune the 2nd (第ニ代野見宿禰, Dai-ni-dai Nomi no Sukune) is a major character in the Baki Dou. He's a professional sumo wrestler who practiced in Ancient Sumo style, and is the descendant of Nomi no Sukune, who also happens to be named Nomi.

He was called simply Sukune Nomi (スクネ・ノミ, Sukune Nomi) by Biscuit Oliva. He is known as the "Super Rikishi" (超カ土, Chō Rikishi).

Personality[]

In contrast to the previous renowned warrior, Musashi Miyamoto, Nomi seems to have a more simplistic mindset. He is quite humble and always appears to speak in a calm-manner, even during fights, as shown in his fights against Biscuit Oliva and the Oozeki.

Much like many top-rank fighters within the series, Nomi is quite battle-hungry and enjoy a fight against any strong opponent regardless of where it was fought, be it the Underground Arena, a street, or even his own house. Though unlike most of such characters, Nomi does not mind losing, as he deemed a "wholehearted contests of strength" to be his goal, and that he could learn to become stronger each time he lost. In fact, he even compliments Jack Hanma for biting his right pinkie finger off during their bout, as in doing so will cut Nomi's massive grip strength in half.

Despite this. Nomi took great pride in his immense strength and Ancient Sumo style, to which he is more than eager to demonstrate, and would occasionally display various feats as a show of force to his would-be opponents. Because of this, Nomi would often actively seeks out strong fighters to a battle, even challenging Yuujirou Hanma to a battle, much to the latter's anger.

To upheld his honor and to prove the superiority of Ancient Sumo, Nomi would even challenge strong fighter for a battle even when he's clearly not ready, such as when he challenged Oliva for a rematch after his loss to Jack, and after his loss to Oliva, asking for a bout with Baki Hanma where he proclaims that he would defeat Baki in 10 seconds despite he has not yet fully recovered from injuries from the two previous bouts. This "not a step back" altitude of Nomi later backfired spectacularly, as Nomi would later be defeated by Baki in only 9 seconds. After suffering "the worst failure [he] can imagine" at the end of the "10 seconds" fight with Baki, Nomi has come to a realization that he should have let go of his pride and learn from mistakes, and as such he finally admits defeat and made peace with Baki and others.

Appearance[]

Nomi no Sukune's descendant is a highly bulky muscular man, and he has jet black hair which is slicked back into a ponytail. His body is well rounded for giving the best stance and power possible as a sumo wrestler. For a very large and imposing man, he has very gentle facial features; Baki Hanma even says his face looks pretty girlish.

His attire resembles a usual sumo wrestler's, he wears white stripes around his waist area, along with a tight rope like belt, to hold his trunks in place. In his first encounter with Baki, Nomi is dressed in large casual clothes along with a black beanie hat covering his head and a pair of sandals.

History[]

Baki Dou[]

He challenges Yuujirou Hanma and ends up losing to him. He earns Yuujirou's respect for remaining standing after being punched by him.

Abilities[]

Sukune transforms coal into a partial diamond with his grip strength

Nomi transforms coal into a complete diamond with his grip strength.

Mitsunari Tokugawa described the descendant as the top sumo wrestler in his respective style. It is implied that his grip strength has even surpassed his ancestors. Tokugawa stated that he was able to fully crush coal into diamond, meaning his grip strength alone is equal to 100,000 atmospheres (or 100 tons) of pressure. Nomi also scaled a massive climbing wall without a safety harness in just three steps and jumped back down to the ground without issue, a feat which shocked many of the people in the crowd (one of which was Baki). Moments later, when he was asked by Baki to show him a sumo technique, Nomi created an abstract "yokozuna", which managed to physically affect the crowd watching him after being thrown at them. Nomi's overall strength is shown to be massive, as he was casually creating mini-earthquakes with his legs while practicing the "Shikoashi". In his fight against Oozeki, he managed to stop the strong sumo wrestler's initial charge without much problem before grabbing his shoulder blade and lifting him up one-handed like it was nothing.

His greatest feat of strength is demonstrated when he faced Biscuit Oliva and (through sheer grip strength alone) grabbed him by the ribs and broke all of them just by pulling them upwards, completely bypassing Oliva's formidable musculature with minimal effort. Nomi is also shown to be extraordinarily tough as Oliva's iron-like fists were completely shattered (much to his shock) when he punched Nomi's forehead, which was virtually unharmed by the attack. Nomi's absurd toughness was once again proven when Yuujirou Hanma struck him with a powerful blow to the face and he was still able to stand on his feet despite being unconscious from the blow. Mitsunari Tokugawa has mentioned that if Musashi Miyamoto were there he'd have praised the young man's durability, likely exclaiming something like: "How mighty that temple of flesh!". Although Yuujirou initially looked down upon Nomi, he approved of the young Sumo Wrestler as he was interested enough to have a rematch.

Being an Ancient Sumo practitioner, Nomi is capable of delivering fast and powerful kicks. In his short confrontation with Yuujirou, he hurled him to the other side of the Underground Arena with just one kick even though it didn't do him any obvious damage. During his fight against Jack Hanma, Nomi countered Jack's charging tackle by swifly landing a kick to his jaw which made the larger fighter stand up, although the kick was countered by a bite, it just grazed his heel. Despite his loss against Jack, the pit fighter acknowledged Sukune's strength and admitted that the sumo wrestler would have defeated him if he weren't injured earlier and had more strength in his last throw.

As further proof of his inhuman power, Nomi believes himself capable to defeat Baki in a mere 10 seconds if using all of his power without restraint. Although this ultimately failed, and was in fact himself defeated by Baki in 9 seconds, Baki would go to admit he countered his attack because he deemed Nomi as extremely dangerous, which evidences that Nomi was in fact capable of such seemingly impossible feat.
