Poison Hand (毒手, Dokushu) is a special technique used by Ryuukou Yanagi. It is an extremely dangerous and risky technique, due to the deadly and fatal effects that the victim experiences when hit by the technique, and the strict and excruciating conditions and steps taken by the user when carrying out the ritual.

Description[]

First, the user has to prepare a special poison compound consisting of various toxic plants and venomous insects. The qualities of the poison and the measurements of the ingredients must be exact. Next, the user pours the poison compound into a large vase full of sand. The poison compound turns the sand into poison sand.

The user then takes the hand that they wish to turn poisonous and repeatedly jabs it into the poison sand. The user must then dip their hand into the antidote every 7 minutes during the day and every 9 minutes during the night, while still repeatedly jabbing their hand into the poison sand after each detoxification. This pattern must be done for 5 days in a row. It is extremely painful and so unbearable that many would rather cut off their own arm than live with the pain.

When the hand swells up and turns the color of a sweet potato, it means the poisoning has reached its maximum effect. The poison is an organic combination that affects the opponent's nerves. A small amount can cause blindness. If it reaches the blood stream, it kills the person by making them rot from the inside out, right down to the bone. The poison is implied to be fast acting.

There is only one way to cure the poison (other than the original antidote used to give the practioners hand immunity); there are two types of Poison Hand, these two variants are described as Yin and Yang. Originally they were one, written up on a series of scrolls; however when the Chinese gifted the Japanese the secret of the art - they left out some portion of the scrolls which described the recipe. Over time, the Japanese varient evolved into the Yin form of the poison, with the original varient, the Yang form, remaining in use in China by various Kaious throughout history. If the same person is subjected to both poisons, the two will cancel each other out, thus acting as a cure. In the second series of the manga, Baki Hanma was hit by Yanagi's Yin variant of the Poison Hand, causing him to became very sick, skinny, weak, and constantly coughing up blood. The poison was very dangerous with even Kureha Shinogi and Reiichi Andou being unable to recreate the antidote. Fortunately, Kaiou Ri can use the Yang variant of the technique, and unknowingly healed Baki during their battle.

However, it is implied that there is another factor involved in the cure; a chemical released from the brain when the victim feels strong euphoria. Whether this euphoria is meant to come from the thrill of combat or romantic attraction is unknown as the only known case was feeling both at the time.
