Sam Atlas (サム・アトラス, Samu Atorasu) is a fictional character from manga series of Baki-Dou.
Personality[]
Sam is always bored, because none of his rivals can give him a good fight. At some point his boredom has grown to the point where he decided to cross the entire Pacific Ocean in order to find a good rival. He believes that weight is the most important thing in a battle, even if it is a fight without rules. Several times he proved to be someone who is easily surprised, such as when Mitsunari Tokugawa quickly organized his fight or when he saw Baki Hanma.
He hates being underestimated and was quite overconfident in his own abilities as he had never been close to losing before, that is, until his fated match with a bored Baki Hanma. After that, he is humbled by how Baki went all out against him, and considered Baki "very kind" for displaying his full strength despite his boredom.
Appearance[]
Sam is a tall, muscular man with blond hair and a thick beard. He has a tattoo with a difficult form to distinguish on his shoulders. In the ring, he wears black shorts. When he visits Tokugawa, he wears a suit with a tie.
History[]
Baki-Dou[]
He defended his MMA heavyweight title for 7 years, which leads him to complete boredom. He grew bored of fighting because of how easy and monotonous it became for him. Until he saw a young man named Baki Hanma fight his father Yuujirou Hanma on live television. After that spectacle he knew he had to face Baki for himself.
Sam later flown to Japan to met Mitsunari Tokugawa, the owner of the Underground Arena to request for a bout with Baki. He is surprised that Mitsunari and Baki agreed to a fight on that night, without any further preparation.
Later that night, Sam entered the arena and is surprised that Baki, the "Strongest Boy on the Earth", is only half his size and weight. He is aware that Baki has went through a lot of fights evident by the countless scars across his body, but Sam is more than confident that he can easily overpowers Baki with his sheer difference in size and weight. However, Baki quickly defeats Sam by grabbing his head and shaking it, causing rapid concussions in his brain and knocking him out instantly.
Sam is later seen reflecting the aftermath of the fight on a poolside of his private mansion. He now understands why Baki deserved to be called "the Strongest", and even considered him "kind" for trying to hold back his yawn during the fight.
Abilities[]
Being the undefeated champion of the MMA heavyweight for over 7 years, it can be assumed that Sam is a powerful individual. In his first appearance, he easily defeated the challenger for the title with two very fast blows, which broke his opponent's jaw, despite the fact that Sam was totally distracted. However, at the same time, he was no match for Baki, who dodged all his blows and beat him just by shaking his head.
Despite being an MMA champion, Atlas only shows only four techniques: a punch to the chin, a suplex, a stomp aimed at the opponent's feet and a feint kick.
