Whip Strike (鞭打, Benda), also known as the Whip of Mercury (水銀の鞭, Suigin no Muchi), is a special technique from manga series of Baki the Grappler.
In Chinese Kenpo, the skill is taught as the Columbus' Egg (コロンブスの卵, Koronbusu no Tamago) technique.
Description[]
Whip Strike is a technique that involves the user making their body as loose and fluid as possible, allowing the practitioner to use their arms like a whip, enabling them to perform powerful "slaps" which affect the largest human organ, the skin.
This technique is powerful enough that it can rend the skin off a victim's body and cause enough pain that anyone hit by it will cry out in agony. Since the whole body is covered by skin, which by itself has a nerve system running beneath it, the Whip Strike has the same effect no matter where it hits, and it doesn't even matter how thick or how tough the skin may be, as the impact will stimulate these nerve system, resulting in a painful sensation.
Even Baki Hanma (who has put his body through constant, strenuous training) or Yuujirou Hanma (who has never shown any sight of pain whatsoever throughout the series) was no different: When Baki was hit by his father's Whip Strike, the pain was so intense it caused him to jump around in pain, which looked like he'd never been in that much pain at one moment before in the series. When Yuujirou himself is on the receiving end of this technique during the same fight with Baki, he has to stand immobile and tense every muscle in his body to distract himself from the pain. Despite the moment of vulnerability Baki wasn't able to take advantage of it as he was left confused and stunned at his father's intense visage.
Although this technique is strong, Baki Hanma and Yuujirou Hanma rarely use it, because they claim that this technique is "good for children and women", not a skill for a man because "real men don't slap".
For the first time in the series, Ryuukou Yanagi used this technique against Baki in their battle during the second manga series. Baki later used the same technique against Yanagi and Sikorsky during the same fight. In the third manga series, Baki uses this technique on two occasions; against Pickle and his father Yuujirou, the latter has also used this technique on his son. In the Hanma Baki VS Kengan Ashura movie, Baki used this move against Ouma Tokita.
